As part of the programmes marking the 2024 convocation ceremony, the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, held its maiden Hooding ceremony for the 213 PhD graduates.

The first hooding event in the annals of the SPGS was held at UNILAG Sports Centre ahead of the graduation of the 213 PhD graduates.

The PhD graduates, both old and young were beaming with smiles as the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Abraham Osinubi, conducted the hooding ceremony assisted by SPGS board members and staff.

In his speech, Prof. Osinubi, described the hooding ceremony as a day of celebration, reflection,and inspiration for the graduates.

“Today, we gather to honour our hard work, perseverance and remarkable achievements, as you transition from students of SPGS to ambassadors of excellence in the wider,” Osinubi noted.

According to him, the ceremony marks the culmination of countless hours of dedication, determination, and sacrifice.

Prof. Osinubi reminded the 213 PhD graduates that hooding event symbolize more than just academic accomplishments but a reminder of their responsibility to apply knowledge and skills they have acquired to make a difference in their communities, professions and the World at large.

He continued: “The degree you hold is not just a personal achievement but a tool for driving transformation and solving the complex challenges of our times.”

The dean advised the PhD graduates to allow their work and character to speak volumes about the quality of education and mentorship they received from UNILAG SPGS.

“And as you forge ahead, never forget the roots that nurtured you. Your alma mater will always hold the door open for you. We encourage you to stay connected, contribute to the growth of this great institution, and inspire those who come after you, ” he stated.

Osinubi challenged the SPGS graduates to aim higher, dream bigger, and strive relentlessly for excellence, adding that the World awaits their brilliance and expressed confidence they would exceed their expectations.
