OPay has announced the inclusion of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) as the eighth beneficiary of its flagship N1.2 billion, 10-year national scholarship scheme.

A recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held on campus at the University of Calabar, attended by senior representatives of OPay, university management and student leaders. The event marked another milestone in OPay’s mission to ease the financial burden on promising Nigerian students and empower the next generation of leaders through sustained educational support.

Speaking during the ceremony, Prof. Florence Obi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, expressed her gratitude to OPay for its thoughtful intervention:

“OPay’s generosity is deeply appreciated. This scholarship programme is a very welcome initiative. In addition to the existing support schemes, it will help many of our students and inspire and encourage them to excel in their academics,” she said.

Corroborating, Mr. IK Odiase, Head of Partnerships at OPay, underscored the importance of education in driving Nigeria’s future: “We are honoured to partner with the University of Calabar on this impactful journey over the next 10 years. Education is the cornerstone of nation-building, and we remain committed to ensuring that students across Nigeria have the support they need to succeed,” he said. Beyond financial assistance, OPay’s initiative serves as a beacon of hope for countless families and communities. Following its successful rollout across seven universities earlier this year, UNICAL now joins a growing list of institutions benefiting from the company’s strategic investment in education.
