The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has provided mental health and psychosocial support to 106, 947 persons in the Northeast affected by over a decade violence.
IOM Chief of Mission to Nigeria, Mr Laurent de Boeck disclosed on Friday in Maiduguri, Borno State at a review of the organisation’s activities in the northeast.
“Mental health and psychosocial support reached 106, 947 individuals offering material assistancey psychosocial support and referral services to victims of trafficking, persons with disabilities and vulnerable households,” Boeck said.
He explained the UN agency undertook over 260,000 Pre-Departure Medical Health Assessment, diagnosing and referring 166 migrant with Tuberculosis (TB) under its Migrants Health programme.
He said the organisation embarked on peace-building efforts through training of stakeholders and community to build resilience through conflict mitigation and community reconciliation in year 2023.
The UN chief noted that the organisation was collaborating with the Nigerian government, UN refugee agency and other partners for the repatriation of thousands of Nigerian refugees that fled their homes to neighbouring African nations in the wake of insurgency.
