The United Nations (UN) Joint Team on AIDS has presented an award to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in recognition of his outstanding leadership to end AIDS scourge and substantial resourcing of the response in Lagos State.
He received the award during a courtesy visit by the team led by the UNAIDS Country Director and representative for Nigeria, Leopold Zekeng, at the Lagos House Marina.
Zekeng whob congratulated Sanwo-Olu on his re-election, expressed readiness and commitment to work with the Lagos State Government and Nigeria.
Zekeng commended the state government for prioritizing its contribution to AIDS social response agenda, which included reducing mother to child transmission, accelerating prevention for adolescents and young people in the state.
The governor was also lauded for his leadership role, investments and contributions to AIDS response agenda.
Zekeng implored him to ensure that the services were incorporated into the state’s health insurance scheme.
Governor Sanwo-Olu in his response, said the state would continue to put an integrated action plan in place to provide resources for response, advocacy, communication and information on AIDS.
