Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi has expressed displeasure with the manner, the people of Afikpo North failed to reciprocate the good works he claimed he did for them and voted outrightly for the opposition against his All Progressives Congress (APC) at the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly polls.
Speaking at a Town Hall meeting at Amuro/Mgbom Primary School ground on Wednesday in Afikpo urban, Umahi said irrespective of his numerous infrastructural achievements in the area, it was to his dismay that the people did not deliver the APC notwithstanding the top political appointments he gave to them.
He listed some of the appointees from the area as the Deputy Speaker, Head of Service, the running mate to the APC Governorship candidate, in Saturday’s poll, members of Boards, Commissions and Agencies, among others.
He said despite the unexpected performance of the people, he would in his capacity as would-be senator strive to ensure that his unfulfilled promise of the construction of an inter-state bridge project at Ndibe at the Cross River beach in Afikpo was realized. He further revealed that he was currently liaising with the Presidency to see to the upgrading of the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Unwana to a full-fledged university status.
The people of Afikpo had in their welcome address commended the governor for showing them love and providing basic infrastructural facilities such as quality roads.
They, however, requested that he revisits the promises made by his administration which remained unfulfilled. Among the promises were the bridge project and a regional modern market which he declared to name after the retired Bishop of the Abakaliki Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Michael Nnachi Okoro.
