Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, will deliver the 2024 convocation lecture of the Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT), next week.
ESUT vice chancellor, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie disclosed this at the pre-convocation press conference held at the institution’s main campus, Agbani, yesterday.
He said the visitor of the University and Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, will be conferred with honorary doctorate of Business Administration and Corporate Governance at the convocation proper, on Saturday, November 23.
He also said that Austrian businessman, Mr. Bernd Bergmair, would bag a doctoral award on Business Administration (Honoris Causa).
Okolie further disclosed that 9,494 graduates would participate in the convocation, with 6,949 bagging first degree. 1,413 are for post-graduate diploma, 790 are for master’s degree and 322 are for Ph.D.
Giving further details, he explained that 199 are first class, 2,060 second class upper, 4,456 second class lower division and 56 third class, while 178 have classified pass for medicine and pharmacy.
The VC also disclosed that subscription of candidates into the university has increased exponentially, as according to him, following the ever-increasing conducive academic climate, students from other universities were now making ESUT a university of first choice.
He noted that students now graduate and immediately collect their respective certificates, pointing out that statement of results was no longer permissible for both staff and students of the institution.
He mentioned the laudable feat of students of ESUT who won the just concluded 042 Debate Tournament with the N15 million prize tag as a reflection of the resurgence of the institution in the academic standing.
