Urges Ebonyians to vote for equity, justice and fairness

Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi, has reinterated that the newly inaugurated Ebony State Neighbourhood watch and the Ebonyi Vigilante Corps will not participate in the Saturday, 25th February, and 11th March 2023 elections.
The Governor who spoke Wednesday during a broadcast in Abakaliki, directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute anyone moving around during the election days in the name of Neighborhood watch or Vigilante Corps.
He insisted that the forthcoming elections must be free, fair and credible and, enjoined Ebony people to feel free to come out in their numbers and cast their votes.
The Governor further used the opportunity to explain to Ebonyi people the reasons behind the emergence of all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress in the state, stressing that equity, fairness and Justice were the guiding compasses.
He recalled the sacrifices of the Abakaliki bloc especially the Izzi people during the 2015 general elections which brought him in as the Governor of the state.
He noted with gratitude that the Izzi people and indeed the entire Abakaliki bloc rejected plots to jettison zoning, and voted for him because they were keen on upholding the principles of equity, fairness and justice for the interest of the peace and unity of the state.
He added that it was on this premise that the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Francis Nwifuru, emerged the Governorship candidate of APC in the state, because Ebonyi South people insisted that power should return to Ebonyi north where it started in 1999.
He therefore called on the people to come out in their numbers to vote for himself as Senator for Ebonyi South, adding that equity and fairness demanded that Ohaozara man where he hails from should represent Ebonyi South this 2023.
On the Ebonyi Vigilante Corps which he said was fashioned after the South West Amotekun and the Neighborhood watch fashioned after the Anambra State Vigilante Corps, Umahi said “neither the two security outfits recently passed into law by the State House of Assembly and inaugurated by me will be allowed to operate on the days of the elections; but they will do everything possible to counter the bandits who have vowed that there will be no elections in Ebonyi and other South Eastern states”
