Bayern Munich knocked out Real Madrid in a dramatic Champions League quarter-final, winning 4-3 on the night and 6-4 on aggregate in Munich.

The match exploded into life from the opening minute when Arda Güler put Madrid ahead, setting the tone for a chaotic first half filled with goals and defensive lapses.

Bayern responded quickly through Aleksandar Pavlović before Harry Kane levelled again after Güler had restored Madrid’s lead. Kylian Mbappé then struck to give the visitors a 3-2 advantage before the break, capping a breathless 45 minutes.

Despite Madrid’s attacking edge, Bayern stayed composed and grew stronger after the interval, pushing forward with more control as the game opened up.

The turning point came late on when Eduardo Camavinga was sent off in the 86th minute, leaving Madrid exposed at a critical moment.

Bayern took full advantage. Luis Díaz drew them level on the night before Michael Olise sealed the win deep into stoppage time with a composed finish that sparked wild celebrations inside the stadium.

Kane, who scored his 50th goal of the season, admitted the contest pushed Bayern to their limits.

“It feels amazing now, for sure. It was a tough game, we knew it was going to be difficult. Real Madrid in the Champions League have a special connection and you need to be at the highest level to beat them and knock them out.

“First half was a little bit crazy and we got off to the worst start possible, but we got back into the game well and looked like the team who was more dangerous.

We were a little more patient in the second half and we knew we’d get stronger as the game went on, and we were able to take our chances towards the end.”

For Madrid, the defeat exposed familiar problems. Their attack delivered, but defensive gaps and a lack of discipline proved costly over the two legs.

Vincent Kompany’s Bayern now move on to face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals, in what promises to be another high-level clash between two in-form sides.
