Armed police have responded to an incident on Oxford Street. It sparked panic during the Boxing Day sales as people feared there could be an attack unfolding.

Police said they responded to reports of ‘shots fired’ on Oxford Street, but that they had not found any evidence this happened, or that a criminal offence had occurred.

Photos online showed a smashed window at House of Fraser, but it was not clear how it came to break.

Twitter user Arush said he saw ‘hundreds of people RUNNING up Wimpole street saying there was an attack’.

A woman has received non-life threatening injuries as a result of a fall, police said.

Officers remain on scene.
