Malawi’s U-20 Women’s National Team head coach, Maggie Chombo, has unveiled a 20-player squad for the decisive final round of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Young Scorchers head into the crucial tie aiming to secure one of Africa’s four available tickets to the tournament scheduled to take place in Poland.
Included in the squad are four players Leticia Chinyamula, Olivia Phikani, Sarah Mlimbika, and Esther Maulidi who were part of the senior Scorchers team that recently featured in the FIFA Series held in Kenya.
Malawi will face Nigeria’s Falconets in a two-legged encounter, with the first leg slated for Saturday, May 2 in Nigeria, while the return fixture will be played on Saturday, May 9 at the Bingu National Stadium.
The team is expected to depart for Nigeria ahead of the first leg as preparations intensify for the high-stakes encounter.
In Goalkeepers, Ireen Sibande (Silver Strikers Ladies), Emily Nkhwazi (Kukoma Ntopwa Women), Esther Maulidi (Mighty Wanderers Queens) were called up.
For defence Maureen Keneth (Ascent Soccer Academy), Talandira Chinyamvula (Ascent Soccer Academy), Olivia Phikani (Kukoma Ntopwa Women), Ongani Masamba (Luwinga Academy) and Alinafe Milanzi (Civil Service Women) are called up.
In the midfield Carolyne Mlezo (FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women), Sarah Mlimbika (Green Buffaloes Women FC), Leticia Chinyamula (Ascent Soccer Academy), Anna Baziliyo (Civil Service Women), Kondawo Banda (Kukoma Ntopwa Women), Linda Manda (Silver Strikers Ladies), Enelesi Fabiano (Mzuzu City Hammers) and Victoria Mkwala (Ascent Soccer Academy) while upfront, forwards Mary Chindeya (Kukoma Ntopwa Women), Fatima Lali (Ascent Soccer Academy), Grace Kakangula (Silver Strikers Ladies) and Mayamiko Mkandawire (Ascent Soccer Academy) are expected to cause havoc for the Nigeria defence.
