The United States President Donald Trump has ordered a temporary halt to planned military strikes on Iranian energy facilities following what he described as “very good and productive” talks with Tehran, signalling a possible diplomatic opening in the escalating Middle East crisis.
The decision comes just hours before the expiration of Washington’s 48-hour ultimatum demanding that Iran reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz to global shipping. Trump said the pause would last five days to allow negotiations to continue.
According to the US leader, recent engagements showed encouraging progress towards resolving hostilities. Talks are expected to continue through the week, raising cautious hopes of de-escalation.
