Trump extends Iran ceasefire after Pakistan appeal

US President Donald Trump has extended the ceasefire with Iran, directing American forces to maintain a naval blockade while awaiting a unified response from Tehran.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said Iran’s leadership remains divided, making it difficult for the country to present a clear negotiating position.

“Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured… we have been asked to hold our attack on the country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal,” he said.

The US leader disclosed that the decision followed a direct appeal from Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, and the country’s military chief, Asim Munir, who urged Washington to delay any military action.

“I have therefore directed our military to continue the blockade and remain ready and able, and will extend the ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted,” Trump added.

Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated earlier this month over control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route.

Pakistan has since stepped in as a key mediator, engaging both sides in back-channel talks aimed at preventing further escalation.

However, no timeline has been announced for Iran to present its proposal or for negotiations to conclude.
