From Geoffrey Anyanwu, Enugu
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Enugu has reaffirmed the election of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah.
Delivering judgment in the petitions of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) and it’s governorship candidate, Christopher Agụ, against Mbah’s declaration and return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Justice Kudirat Morayo Akano-led Tribunal held that the petitioners failed in all their grounds of appeal.
The petitioners had alleged among others that Mbah was not qualified to contest the election at the time of the election on the account of not academically qualified; involvement in alleged plea bargain and submission of forged NYSC certificate.
They also alleged that Mbah was not lawfully elected, and election malpractices.
On the issue of academic qualification, the tribunal held that the petitioners did not substantiate their claim, just as they failed to prove their allegation on plea bargain.
On the issue of forged certificate, the court held that the petitioners had no document to establish their claim.
The tribunal is now delivering judgment on Chijioke Edeoga and Labour Party against Mbah and INEC
