Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group), Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, has been named Top10 Magazine’s Man of the Year 2026 in recognition of his leadership in Nigeria’s capital market, corporate governance and economic development.

The magazine said Kwairanga emerged from a multi-stage selection and screening process involving several personalities. He succeeds Nasiru Haladu Danu, Chairman of Casiva Limited, who received the award in 2025.

According to its Board of Editors, the selection recognises Kwairanga’s role in the capital market, commitment to corporate governance and transparency, and influence on Nigeria’s economic development.

In its letter conveying the decision, the board said the award was in recognition of his “towering leadership as custodian of Nigeria’s capital market, his role in driving national economic development, his championship of corporate governance, transparency, integrity and influence that defined Nigeria’s economic narrative in 2026.” The magazine also cited his role in promoting board accountability, shareholder protection, environmental, social and governance (ESG) compliance, and the adoption of international corporate governance practices.

The award comes amid efforts to strengthen investor confidence and attract more domestic and foreign investment into Nigeria’s capital market. However, the magazine’s announcement did not provide specific figures to quantify Kwairanga’s individual contribution to market performance or investment inflows.

The award will be presented at the magazine’s annual excellence awards ceremony scheduled for November 22, 2026, according to Tony Iji, its Publisher and Editor-in-Chief.

Kwairanga has about 25 years of experience across banking, pensions, investment, manufacturing and commerce. He previously served as a council member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and is a council member of the Institute of Directors of Nigeria.
