Toluwanisings’ burial dispute: Oyo police broker peace, parties sign undertaking

From Taiwo Oluwadare, Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has brokered peace among parties involved in the dispute over the burial arrangements of the late singer Olayemi Bayonle Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings.

The intervention followed disagreements between the deceased’s family, wife and associates, which reportedly generated allegations of conspiracy, defamation of character and concerns over conduct capable of causing a breach of public peace.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Tuesday, 3 November 2026.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, received information about the dispute on 28 October 2026 and subsequently directed that all parties be invited to the Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, to prevent further escalation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the deceased’s wife, Mrs Olayemi Elizabeth Damilola; his father, Mr Muniru Olayemi; and his friends and associates, including Oyindamola Esther, Babadunni Gbolabo and Comrade Lawal Ademola Rafiu, alongside his personal assistant and other representatives, signed a peace undertaking before the Commissioner of Police.

Under the agreement, the parties committed themselves to maintaining peace, exhibiting good behaviour and refraining from actions capable of escalating tensions surrounding the singer’s death and burial arrangements.

They also agreed to discontinue public exchanges, interviews and discussions relating to the disagreement, particularly through social media, print media, radio, blogs and other communication platforms.

The undertaking further prohibits the parties from circulating allegations, narratives and publications through their proxies, agents, associates and representatives.

They also agreed not to grant interviews or facilitate media engagements intended to further disseminate information capable of reigniting the disagreement.

The Commissioner of Police warned that the undertaking must be respected by all parties and their respective associates, stressing that anyone whose actions constitute an offence under applicable laws would be arrested and prosecuted.

He cautioned against exploiting the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death to promote hostility, circulate unsubstantiated allegations or disrupt public peace.

The Command also appealed to bloggers, media practitioners and members of the public to exercise restraint and avoid amplifying unverified information capable of reigniting tensions.

It urged all concerned to honour the peace agreement and allow the matter to be resolved through lawful and peaceful means.

The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, preventing crime and maintaining peace and public order across the state.
