“To whom much is given, much is expected”: Gombe police chief urges newly promoted officers to behave

The Gombe State Commissioner of Police (CP), Babatunde Babaita, on Thursday, tasked the newly promoted officers in the state to uphold the hard work of command in maintaining law and order.

“To whom much is given, much is expected,” the CP said while speaking shortly after decorating the 13 officers that were promoted from the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to Superintendent of Police (SP).

According to CP, the frequent selection and promotion of officers and men of the command were borne out of the passion of the Inspector General (IG) of the police Usman Alkali Baba to reward hard work and the performance of the command.

“The discipline being displayed by our officers is paying off, but we really need to do more to sustain our achievements and delivery on the mandate given to us,” he said.

While urging his officers to be more professional in discharging their duties, the Commissioner assured residents in Gombe that the police will always be on its toe in ensuring tackling crime and criminality. “We need all and sundry to cooperate and support the police to ensure peaceful coexistence’’.

He added stating that there is a need for the peace-loving residents in the state to be watchful and shun violence of all forms. ‘’the 2023 general election is around the corner; we are calling parents in the state to watch and monitor the whereabouts of their children. The youths also need to wake up and don’t allow themselves to use in perpetrating a crime or causing unrest in the state.”

He assured that the police will be up and doing to ensure a violence-free election. ‘’Gombe is peaceful and we all know it, but we should all work towards ensuring that the peace that we are having today is sustained,” the CP said.
