President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential primary election in Abia State, defeating his rival, Stanley Osifo, after securing an overwhelming majority of votes across the state’s 17 local government areas.

The result, which was officially announced at the APC presidential primary election collation centre in Abia State by the state collation officer and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, showed that Tinubu scored 161,005 of the total votes cast, while his rival, Osifo, polled 1,007.

The primary election, which was conducted across the 17 local government areas of the state, had earlier seen the senator representing Abia North in the Senate, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, rallying massive support for the president in his Igbere Ward A.

At the end of the exercise in the area, Tinubu got 4,986 votes, one of the highest in any single ward in the state, to the joy of Kalu, who said the president would not have received fewer votes in his (Kalu’s) ward.

Details of the result showed that Tinubu won in all the local government areas, posting some of his highest figures in Bende Local Government Area with 39,826 votes; Umuahia North, 14,943 votes; Isiala Ngwa North, 11,298 votes; and Ikwuano, 8,902 votes.

However, Osifo’s highest vote came from Isiala Ngwa North, where he polled 181 votes. He also had 158 votes in Isiala Ngwa South and 116 votes in Umuahia North Local Government Area.

Kalu, while announcing the result, disclosed that Abia State had a total of 162,109 registered APC members eligible to participate in the presidential primary election.

He said that out of the figure, 162,084 party members were accredited for the exercise, while a total of 162,012 votes were cast during the election.

Kalu subsequently declared President Tinubu the winner of the APC presidential primary in Abia State, having scored the highest number of valid votes cast in the exercise.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the party and scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is hereby declared the winner of the APC presidential primary election in Abia State.”

Party members at the collation centre expressed joy that the exercise went smoothly without any incident.

They promised to ensure Tinubu would receive far higher votes from the state in the 2027 general election.
