President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, aimed at deepening ties and unlocking new opportunities in key sectors.

According to a statement by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the trip seeks to reinforce the “existing cordial relations between the two countries and exploring further areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation,” the statement read.

This visit reciprocates Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s official trip to Nigeria from October 19 to 20, 2021. High-level talks will cover “strategic political and diplomatic discussions on shared values in finance, communication, trade and investment.”

Key highlights include meetings between senior officials and the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military cooperation, and protocol, among others. A business forum will also connect investors from both nations to identify mutual interests.
President Tinubu’s entourage features top officials including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi; Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rted); and Chairman, House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.

Others joining the bilateral discussions are Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.

The President is slated to return home at the end of the visit.
