Tinubu sends ambassadors to UN, 64 countries

President Bola Tinubu has approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors and high commissioners.

The list of appointees, comprising political heavyweights, retired generals, and seasoned diplomats, is made up of 31 non-career and 34 career diplomats following their confirmation by the Senate in December 2025.

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received formal agreement from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, paving his way to London. France has similarly approved Ambassador Ayo Oke for Paris.

He said the ministry has forwarded nominations for the remaining 62 designated envoys to their host countries, complete with agreement requests, following standard diplomatic protocol.

Onanuga said President Tinubu also directed the ministry to launch an immediate induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and high commissioners, ensuring rapid deployment to their posts.

Ita Enang (South Africa), former governor of Abia State, Ikpeazu Victor (Spain), Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu (Israel), former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmud Yakubu (Qatar), Paul Oga Adikwu (Holy See), former administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Philippines), Reno Omokri (Mexico), Abasi Braimah (Hungary), Erelu Angela Adebayo (Portugal), Olumilua Oluwayimika Ayotunwa (Japan), former governor of Enugu State, Ugwuanyi Ifeanyi Lawrence (Greece), Chioma Priscilla Ohakim (Poland), Aminu Dalhatu (United Kingdom), Lt. Gen.  Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (China), Tasiu Musa Maigari (Gambia) and Olufemi Pedro (Australia).
