President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Lagos after ending his working vacation in France, with strategic meetings with political leaders and associates expected to take place over the coming days.
Tinubu arrived at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, on Tuesday, where Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries received him.
The President’s return was confirmed by his Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, who posted on X: “Landing. Welcome home Mr President!”
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for the working vacation, spending one week in London before proceeding to Paris.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President departed Paris for Lagos, where he is expected to meet political leaders and associates over the next few days.
The Presidency said the meetings would form part of preparations for the 2027 elections.
“While in Lagos, President Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections,” the statement said.
The Presidency also said Tinubu chose to return to Lagos first to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 1993 presidential election and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
As part of activities marking Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1, Tinubu is expected to attend the premiere of a film celebrating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
During his stay in France, Tinubu also held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron.
His return to Lagos places him back at the centre of domestic political engagements, with meetings scheduled ahead of the 2027 election season and Independence Day activities planned for October 1.
