President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has directed that the school feeding programme be moved from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to the Federal Ministry Education, for monitoring and effective implementation.

The president believes such a decision will result in better and effective implementation of the programme, as part of an effort to solve the growing problems of out-of-school children in the country.

Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, disclosed the development at a one-day retreat on ministerial deliverables (2023 – 2027), for directors in the Federal Ministry of Education and chief executive officers of all the parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Education, in Abuja, yesterday.

The minister said the essence of the meeting was to find ways of implementing all the policies developed to tackle the challenges and to review the responsibilities of different agencies responsible for overturning the out-of-school children’s challenges.

The minister also disclosed the president directed the school feeding programme be re-introduce in Nigeria basic education to address the challenges of out-of-school children and the learning crisis currently bedevilling the country.

He said if the learning crisis is not tackled, it will be difficult to address the challenges of out-of-school children.

He said the ministry has commenced work on modalities for the implementation of the project as well as the cost of doing that.
