President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria following a two-day official visit to Qatar. His arrival at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja marked the conclusion of his 12th foreign trip since taking office nine months ago, accumulating a total of 75 days abroad.
Tinubu was warmly received by top government officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Abdullahi Ganduje, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services Yusuf Bichi, among others.
During his visit, President Tinubu visited Qatar’s National Museum, where he emphasized the importance of documenting a nation’s history and cultural evolution. He expressed admiration for the museum’s efforts to preserve culture and history.
The highlight of the visit was the signing of seven significant agreements between Nigeria and Qatar covering various areas such as education, employment, business, youth, sports, tourism, and combating illicit trade in narcotic drugs. These agreements underscored the commitment of both nations to deepen bilateral cooperation and enhance mutual benefits.
President Tinubu also presided over the Nigeria-Qatar Business and Investment Forum, where he urged Qatari investors to refrain from offering bribes to Nigerian officials. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s determination to tackle corruption and bureaucratic obstacles hindering the ease of doing business in the country. Tinubu assured the international business community of Nigeria’s readiness for serious investment and pledged to streamline processes to facilitate legitimate enterprise.
This visit to Qatar adds to Tinubu’s diplomatic engagements, marking his 16th foreign destination and demonstrating his administration’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties, promoting economic cooperation, and attracting foreign investment to Nigeria.
