President Bola Tinubu has approved the renewal of Ayo Omotayo’s appointment as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, for a final four-year term.
The decision extends Omotayo’s leadership at the premier policy think tank, where he has served since his initial appointment by former President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2021, which was confirmed by the Senate in February 2022.

A distinguished scholar in environmental sustainability, Omotayo earned his PhD in Geography from the University of Ibadan between 1980 and 1990. He launched his academic career at Lagos State University (LASU) in 1985, ascending to senior lecturer by 1992 at just 30 years old.
Omotayo later held key roles at LASU, including dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2017 and director of the Centre for Planning before his elevation to NIPSS DG.
The renewal was announced in a State House press release by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
