President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, has commissioned the full scope development of Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way), stretching from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in the Dape District of Abuja, describing Nigeria’s leading construction firm, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, as a world-class engineering company that consistently delivers projects with precision and seriousness.

The President, represented at the ceremony by Vice President Kashim Shettima, defied heavy rainfall to inaugurate the project and commended the contractor for what he called “world-class engineering and professionalism,” noting the speed and quality of execution.
Tinubu said the project reflects a departure from the era of abandoned infrastructure scattered across government budgets for years without completion. According to him, the administration conceived, funded and delivered the project within a strict 15-month timeline after it was awarded in October 2024.

He stressed that infrastructure remains a key measure of national development, adding that no capital city can function effectively when burdened by neglect, delayed projects and broken promises. He also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to making the Federal Capital Territory a functional and modern capital worthy of Nigeria’s aspirations.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, also praised Julius Berger, describing the company as a contractor that “never takes assignments lightly.” He said the completion of the project demonstrates what is achievable when political will is matched with strict execution discipline. Wike added that the current administration prioritises delivery over excuses, noting that funding is provided to ensure results rather than prolonged explanations for failure. He also revealed that the commissioning forms part of a broader 31-day programme of project inaugurations across the FCT, describing it as evidence of sustained infrastructure rollout in the capital.
Providing technical details, Managing Director of Julius Berger, Engr. Dr. Peer Lubasch, said the project involved extensive engineering works, including a dual carriageway, a two-span river bridge, massive earthworks, rock excavation, drainage systems, box culverts, street lighting and utility corridors. He explained that much of the most complex work is underground, including drainage and utilities that ensure the road’s long-term durability.
Lubasch said the project is more than a road, describing it as a critical infrastructure link that connects communities and improves mobility across rapidly growing districts in Abuja. He noted that the completed corridor has significantly reduced traffic bottlenecks at Life Camp Junction and improved access to Dape, Gwarinpa, Kado, Karsana, Idu, Gwagwa and Jiwa, while also enhancing connectivity to the city centre and the airport route.
He also described the project as a demonstration of leadership, vision and technical excellence, commending the FCT administration for driving accelerated infrastructure development in the capital.
The event was attended by top government officials, including members of the National Assembly and other dignitaries, who witnessed the commissioning of what officials described as a key milestone in Abuja’s infrastructure expansion drive.
