President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow at the death of Senator Anthony Adeniyi, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who died at 75.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president described Adeniyi as a “distinguished statesman and democrat” whose career spanned law, politics and public service.
Adeniyi served as Ekiti State chairman of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), the grassroots movement that campaigned for Tinubu’s 2023 presidential bid. The presidency said his work for SWAGA “mobilised nationwide support” that contributed to the president’s election.

The statement highlighted Adeniyi’s record in the legal profession and in public office, noting that he represented Ekiti South Senatorial District from 2011 to 2015. It said he was widely respected for “brilliance, integrity and dedication to justice” and described him as a “voice of reason, courage, and patriotism” who put public interest above personal considerations.
Tinubu paid tribute to Adeniyi’s lifelong commitment to democratic governance and national development, saying the late senator demonstrated that commitment both in words and in action and devoted “immense resources, energy, and organisational capacity” to the 2023 campaign. The President offered condolences to Adeniyi’s family and to progressives across the country and prayed that his “legacy of service, sacrifice, integrity, and dedication to democracy will continue to inspire generations.”
