President Bola Tinubu has commiserated received with the people of Ibadan and the Oyo State government on the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II.
According to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu condoled with the family of the Olubadan, the government of Oyo State, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Traditional Council, and the people of Ibadanland and Oyo State over this gaping loss. President Tinubu said he mourns the Olubadan, yet celebrates his remarkable life of service to his people, the state, and the nation.
“His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, was an exceptional king who used his ancestral stool in the service of humanity. He was compassionate, courageous, and an unrelenting advocate of the pristine ideals of peace, honesty, and unity. His wise counsel will be sorely missed at this time in the life of our country,” he said. Also commiserating with the government and people of Oyo State over the demise of the traditional ruler was former Chief Whip of the Senate and former Abia State governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. Kalu, who is the Ashipa Seriki Mayegun of Ibadanland, acknowledged the robust contributions of the late monarch to the social, economic and political development of Ibadanland, Oyo State and Nigeria.
The former governor, while extolling the virtues of the late traditional ruler, urged leaders to emulate the exemplary qualities of the late Oba Balogun.
In a condolence message, the former governor expressed sadness over the loss, adding that the late monarch was a nationalist, who was passionate about the unity and progress of Nigeria.
He said: “I mourn the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olalekan Balogun Alli Okunmade II.
“He was a well respected monarch owing to his selflessness, patriotism, humility and commitment to community service. “The late monarch will be forever remembered for leaving behind worthy legacies for his family to uphold. His demise is a huge loss to the nation”.
Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a message, said the late Oba Balogun’s service to the people of Ibadanland, Oyo State and Nigeria, as a whole will remain his enduring legacy.
In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, on Friday, he described Oba Balogun’s death as a great loss to the people of Ibadan and the traditional institution in Oyo State.
Sanwo-Olu also expressed his condolence to the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, over the demise of the monarch.
The governor urged the family, friends and associates of the deceased as well as the entire people of Ibadan, whose interests the late monarch represented and worked tirelessly for during his lifetime, to work towards immortalising him.
