President Bola Tinubu has sent 65 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced in plenary on Thursday.

The batch comprises 34 career ambassadors and high commissioners and 31 non-career nominees, bringing the total to 65. The submissions were formally read during the session and referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for screening.

Among the career diplomats named are Sulu-Gambari Ahmed and Segun Ige. Notable non-career nominees include former Defence Minister Abdulrahman Dambazau, Senator Folasade Grace Bent (Adamawa), Senator Solomon Ita Enang (Akwa Ibom) and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo), according to the President’s letter.

The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs is expected to begin consideration of the new list within one week.

Yesterday, the committee screened three ambassadorial nominees whose names were earlier forwarded—Kayode Are (Ogun), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa) and Ayodele Oke (Oyo)—but a report from the screening is yet to be laid for confirmation by the Senate.
