President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has defended his administration’s economic reforms, insisting that the tough policies introduced under his government are beginning to yield results and place Nigeria’s economy on a firmer footing.
In his Eid-el-Kabir message released on Tuesday, the President acknowledged the hardship faced by Nigerians but maintained that the sacrifices tied to the reforms were necessary to secure long-term prosperity and economic stability.
According to Tinubu, measures rolled out over the past three years have started producing positive outcomes, making Nigeria a more stable economy and a stronger destination for investment, job creation and growth.
“The reforms we have undertaken are challenging but necessary to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria for future generations,” Tinubu said.
“Just as sacrifice brings reward, I am happy that the sacrifices and efforts we have made over the past three years have yielded a more stable economy, making our country a preferred investment destination that will drive job creation and economic growth. The walk through the dark tunnel is over, and the light is here.”
Since taking office, Tinubu’s administration has implemented sweeping economic reforms, including the removal of petrol subsidy and the floating of the naira as part of efforts to unify the foreign exchange market.
While some economists and international institutions have praised the policies as bold and necessary, the reforms have also deepened economic pressure on many Nigerians, with inflation, food prices, transport fares and the overall cost of living rising sharply.

The Federal Government, however, insists the policies are gradually restoring macroeconomic stability, strengthening public finances and unlocking resources for key sectors such as infrastructure, education and healthcare.
The President also addressed the country’s security challenges, admitting that terrorism, banditry and kidnappings continue to trouble several communities despite intensified operations by security agencies.
“I am aware that, despite the best efforts of our security and intelligence agencies including the recent elimination of a wanted ISIS leader heartless terrorists and bandits still attack some communities,” he said.
“I assure you: you are neither abandoned nor forgotten. We will ultimately defeat all the forces of evil.”
Tinubu urged Nigerians to embrace the values of sacrifice, compassion, unity and peace associated with Eid-el-Kabir, while calling on Muslims to pray for the nation and extend support to vulnerable citizens during the festive season.
“My administration remains committed to building a Nigeria where all citizens can live in peace, worship freely, and pursue their dreams without fear,” the President added.
