… Says Argungu fishing festival shows peace returning across Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, for executing good projects for the people of the state.
The president, who also attended the grand finale of the Argungu fishing festival, noted that the successful hosting of the ancient festival had shown that peace is returning to various states and the Federal Government would win the war against insurgency.
Tinubu stated this in Birnin Kebbi while commissioning the ultra-modern state secretariat named after him. He said he was not surprised to see Governor Idris executing meaningful capital projects that bear direct bearing on the welfare of the people of Kebbi State.
The projects commissioned by President Tinubu included a modern motor park, dualized three-lane carriageway along Emir Haruna Road Birnin Kebbi, Kauran Gwandu College of Nursing and Midwifery Science Ambursa as well as the dualized Old Argungu Bypass.
He described the Kebbi State Governor as a brother, friend and comrade “who is working in the interest of masses at heart,” adding, “I know what you can do, you are a man with a mission and vision. I am always proud of you.”
The President commended the people of Kebbi State for supporting the administration of Nasir, which enabled him to achieve noble results.
At the grand finale of the Argungu Fishing Festival, held in Argungu town, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lauded the fishermen for their skills saying: “This is a remarkable scene. This fishing festival has stayed for decades and is an opportunity for natural resources for national development.”

He commended the Kebbi State for successful hosting of the fishing festival and entire people of the State stressed that the Kebbi State Governor has demonstrated a team leader.
He observed that there has been significant improvement in security in the state and across the country, stressing that the relative peace being experienced was the result of the sacrifices of uniformed men and community intelligence.
He said that the war against the insurgents would be won and farmers as well as fishermen would return to their normal businesses.
In his remarks, Governor Idris, while expressing appreciation to President Tinubu for his physical presence at the grand finale of the Argungu fishing festival, disclosed that his administration had employed many doctors and nurses, adding it also established a new School of Midwifery. The government distributed agricultural inputs to farmers, free of charge.
Still in the area of education, he said his administration established four mega schools, provided free education for all children in the state, and sponsored less privileged students to study in foreign countries.
Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Mohammad Samaila Mera, who is the custodian of the Mata Fadan River, tendered apology for the breaking of the protocol experienced before the commencement of the fishing festival by fishermen, saying: “As the custodian of Mara Fadan, I accept all the blame.”
He disclosed that for decades, the festival has been held to showcase unity and resilience among the people of the state and other citizens.
The governors of Sokoto, Zamfara, Borno and Imo, as well as the Minister of State for Works, attended the event.
