President Bola Tinubu on Friday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strengthen voter confidence in the upcoming FCT area council elections and bye-elections in Rivers and Kano states.
The President urged INEC officials, security forces, and voters to behave in a civilized way at the polling station on Saturday.
In addition to holding elections in the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory, INEC will hold bye-elections in the Ahoada East II and Khana II State seats of Rivers State, as well as in the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies of Kano State.
President Tinubu stressed that the democratic process works best in an environment of peace, tolerance, and respect for one another, and he asked all eligible voters to cast their ballots without fear.

He urged candidates, political parties, and their followers to refrain from acts that damage the process’s credibility, such as violence and provocative remarks.
He emphasized that security guards are there to safeguard people’s lives, property, and the integrity of the voting process and warned against any kind of tyranny, threats, or behaviour that would deny voters their right to vote or undermine public confidence.
In accordance with the 2026 Electoral Act, President Tinubu urged the Commission to take all essential steps to increase voter confidence, including timely accreditation, seamless voting procedures, accurate collation, and rapid results transmission.
“Fellow Nigerians, I assure you that the Federal Government under my administration will continue to support institutions responsible for delivering free, fair, and credible elections.
“To all residents of the FCT, Kano and Rivers, I commend your civic consciousness. I am confident that these elections will reflect the will of the people and further strengthen our democratic journey as a nation,” the President added.
