President Bola Tinubu has appointed Modupe Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council (NECO), in a move aimed at strengthening leadership within the country’s education sector.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that the appointment forms part of a broader set of decisions targeting reforms and improved governance across key educational institutions.

Professor Adelabu, a respected scholar in educational administration, is a retired academic from Obafemi Awolowo University. She has held several high-profile positions in both academia and public service, including serving as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State between 2013 and 2014.

She also previously chaired the board of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) from 2018 to 2021, where she contributed to policy development and institutional oversight in Nigeria’s technical education system.

Her appointment is expected to bring a blend of academic expertise and administrative experience to NECO, as the council continues efforts to enhance the credibility, efficiency, and overall standard of national examinations in Nigeria.
