Tiger Woods was taken into custody on Friday after his sport utility vehicle overturned following a collision in Jupiter Island, raising fresh concerns about the golf icon’s off-course challenges.
Authorities from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m., when Woods’ vehicle struck another car before flipping onto its side. Officers at the scene noted signs of possible impairment, leading to his apprehension on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Despite the severity of the crash, officials confirmed that Woods did not sustain any injuries. Images from the scene showed the vehicle resting on its side, suggesting a significant impact.
The development comes at a time when the 15-time major champion had only just resumed limited competitive activity after months on the sidelines due to injury. He had been recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon as well as a recent back surgery.

Friday’s incident adds to a troubling pattern in Woods’ history. In 2021, he survived a near-fatal crash in California that resulted in multiple leg surgeries, while a 2017 arrest linked to impaired driving drew widespread attention.
Before the latest setback, Woods had been contemplating a return to the elite stage at the Masters in April. That prospect now hangs in the balance as investigations continue.
Authorities say inquiries into the crash remain ongoing, while Woods’ management team has yet to issue a formal statement.
