Those attacking CG Customs enemies of Nigeria’s progress –Arewa Think Tank
From Noah Ebije, Kaduna
A Northern group, Arewa Think Tank (ATTK) has noted that Nigerians who are in the habit of mounting campaigns of calumny against government officials are enemies of the nation’s progress to provide dividends of democracy to the people.
Specifically, Arewa Think Tank expressed worry over recent campaign of calumny against the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Adewale Bashir Adeniyi by some people to distract him from his duties by attempting to spread misleading information about his record of service.
In a statement, the Chief Convener of ATTK, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu said: “We are disturbed to read that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Adewale Bashir Adeniyi, has raised an alarm over alleged moves by some people he described as “faceless individuals” to distract him from his duties by attempting to spread misleading information about his record of service.
“We understand that Adeniyi raised the alarm while reacting to an inquiry by a national daily on his record of public service since leaving school, based on some documents made available to the said national daily, including his academic qualifications, and records of his days at the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) before joining the NCS.
“However, it gratifies our hearts that Adeniyi has said that he rose to the pinnacle of his career through hard work, dedication and sacrifice, with unblemished record of service, and that together with his team, he is dedicating his energy and expertise to helping to actualise President Bola Tinubu’s agenda of building a stronger and more virile economy for the country.”
However, the group said events in the last days were good indicators for a better and prosperous Nigeria where every citizen will be proud to belong and identify with the country’s its leadership.
Alhaji Yakubu said the encouraging events in the last few days included, among others, Tinubu’s committment to approve a national minimum wage higher than the current N60,000, regarding which the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has presented a detailed cost analysis for the proposed new minimum in compliance with the directive of President Bola Tinubu to that effective.
He also said the air strikes by the Nigerian Air Force, which destroyed terrorists’ enclave in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State was one of such events.
He added that by honouring the first African Nobel Laureate in Literature, Prof. Wole Soyinka, naming a major Abuja Highway after him was one of the indicators that the President is out to make the country work better.
“We are convinced that the events in the last few days in the country by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a testament that he is actually in a hurry to fix Nigeria despite the huge debts, insecurity, socio-economic decay and other troubling issues he inherited from the immediate past administration. This is a strong indicator that Tinubu is working to take the country to the Promised Land. We therefore call on all Nigerians irrespective of political differences to support in this regard.
“We observed with keen interest that following key resolutions, the Federal Government of Nigeria and Organised Labour have reached, President Tinubu has committed his government to a national minimum wage higher than the current N60,000 which brought the nationwide strike action to an end.”
“President Tinubu is indeed working because we can see anxiety and actions in him to take Nigeria to the land flowing with milk and honey where every Nigerian will be happier,” the statement said.
