The Sun Publishing Limited, the publisher of Daily Sun, Saturday Sun, Sunday Sun, and Sporting Sun, again shone brightly at the 2025 award presentation of the Nigerian Media yesterday evening.
The floor was opened for The Sun by Oluseye Ojo, who won the Ibrahim Shekarau Prize for Education Reporter of the Year with his story on ‘Fear as Nigerian languages, dialects face extinction,’ published on 17th August 2024, and ‘Fear as Nigerian languages, dialects face extinction’, published on 17th August 2024, both in Saturday Sun.
He defeated the multiple award-winning Innocent Duru of The Nation, and Ogunyemi Oluwasegun of the Nigerian Tribune, to clinch the prize.
There were three nominations for the Adamu Mu’Azu Prize for Tourism Reporter of the Year. The prize was won by Chinenye Anuforo with her story entitled: ‘Dubai’s AI revolution: A journalist’s perspective on technological wave’, published on 23rd October 2024 in the Daily Sun.
Two entries, ‘Ado-Awaye’s Iyake Suspended Lake: Perilous fate of a global gem’, published on 14th December 2024, and ‘Ibadan’s mythical crocodile’, published on 3rd February 2024, both in Saturday Su, written by Oluseye Ojo of The Sun for the same prize were also nominated.
In the same vein, Aloysius Emeka Attah of The Sun won the Rufkatu Danjuma Prize for Public Health Reporter of the Year, with his story titled: ‘Inside South East Leprosy Settlements.’ He defeated Clifford Ndujihe of Vanguard, and Sunday Eno-Abasi of The Guardian.
Segun Oduayo of The Punch Newspaper also won the Bashorun M.K.O.Abiola Prize for Sports Reporter of the Year, while the Sonny Odogwu Prize for Business Reporter of the Year went to Jeremiah Kingsley of the Guardian.
Adebayo Segun of Nigerian Tribune also won the Olu Aboderin Prize for Entertainment Reporter of the Year, while Justina Jumai of The Nation won the Bukola Saraki Prize for Agriculture Reporter of the year. Also, Geoffrey George of The Punch won the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Prize for Culture and Tradition Reporter of the Year.
