The Institute of Strategic and Development Communication (ISDEVCOM) at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has elected a new executive committee.
The virtual election held on June 7, 2024, saw Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Deputy News Editor and State House Correspondent of The Sun Newspapers, emerge as vice president.
Taiwo-Obalonye, who is also the first female chairperson of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the sixth edition of ISDEVCOM International Conference of Communication and Development, scheduled for 2025, will serve alongside George Ndukwu, the Executive Director at Development Communication Nigeria Initiative, who was elected as the National President.
Other members of the executive committee include Dr. Michael Innocent, Public Relations Manager at Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), who was elected as Secretary General; Ijeoma Okoronkwo, General Manager and Board Secretary at Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), who became the Financial Secretary and Francis Duru, multi-talented Nollywood actor, who was returned as Public Relations Officer (PRO).
The committee also includes Dr. Azubuike Erinugha, Nollywood actor (treasurer); Dr. Ephraim Okon, Country Director of Population Media/Nigeria, (Legal adviser) and Wale Makanjuola, an Independent Public Engagement Consultant (Provost).
Also in the executive committee include Ako Abbah of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), who was returned as the auditor and Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, Head of Corporate Communications at United Nigeria Airlines, who was elected as Alumni Community Relations Officer.
Speaking after the election, Ndukwu thanked all who participated in the process and urged the new Exco to commit to institutionalizing the association through impactful programs at ISDEVCOM and within the university community.
The director of the Institute of Strategic and Development Communication, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, congratulated the newly elected exco members and expressed confidence in their purposeful leadership and contributions to the ISDEVCOM Alumni community.
He urged the new executive committee to build a body that their congress will rally around and to partner with the executive committee to support the ISDEVCOM academic community and Nasarawa State University at large.
