TGI Cares Foundation, the social impact vehicle of Tropical General Investments (TGI), has partnered with the FoodClique, a leading non-governmental organization (NGO) focused on eradicating hunger, to celebrate the 2023 World Food Day, themed: ‘Water is life, water is food.’
The partnership, which has seen TGI Cares donate cash and substantial quantities of food items to Food Clique over the last five years, is in line with the Foundation’s mission to contribute to addressing the critical issues of hunger and a lack of clean water in vulnerable Nigerian communities. It further reinforced the organization’s commitment to combating hunger.
At a recent symposium to mark the day, stakeholders across the food value chain, including Rafiat Gawat, head of corporate communications at TGI Group, discussed the importance of public-private collaborations to achieve sustainable food security solutions.
Gawat emphasised the need for sustainable and innovative solutions to address global hunger for the common good. “There is no denying that all stakeholders in society must come together to address something as crucial as food security. From government at all levels to the organised private sector, traditional institutions, non-governmental organizations, and multilateral organizations, among others. We must transform our empathy into action and make a tangible difference in the lives of the vulnerable. This is why we partner with organizations such as Food Clique and others, as part of our contribution to creating a world where no one is left behind.”
The CEO of the FoodClique Support Initiative, Ibrahim Onilegbale, emphasised the critical role of water access for farmers and the population in achieving sustainable food security. He lauded TGI for its extensive collaborations with FoodClique, which have significantly benefited the most vulnerable individuals facing hunger. He further encouraged private organizations to join in the effort to create a food-secure society.
