The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), is set to establish a fully functional Career Service Centre.

Thr project will be funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and technical facilitation by the Equality Development and Research (EDR) Centre.

This was contained in a statement signed by the  founder of Equality Development and Research EDR Centre, Marsha Nwanne, in Abuja.

According to the statement, the training is a bold step toward institutional reform and student development, adding that the university has commenced a three-day intensive training workshop for staff of the Career Centre.

The statement explains that the training will be facilitated by EDR Centre, a leading voice in workplace advocacy and is designed to equip the team with human resource knowledge and practical tools to run the centre efficiently and ethically.

It stresses that the workshop goes beyond administrative skills.

“We are deliberately addressing real issues that affect students and staff alike workplace bullying, cultism, toxic work environments, and sex-for-grades exploitation” she notes.

“These conversations are long overdue, and our goal is to create a safe and student-centered career ecosystem within the university,” she states.

According to the statement, the Vice Chancellor of MOUAU, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, who explains that the initiative has received the full backing commended both TETFUND and EDR Centre for supporting the university’s vision of institutional excellence and student empowerment.

“This Career Centre will serve as a hub for guidance, mentorship, and career advancement. We want our students to leave here not just educated, but prepared for life,” he states.

The training workshop is expected to equip the staff with better skills to drive student engagement, wellness, and professional readiness in a rapidly evolving world of work.”
