Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has cried out over the recent terrorists attacks in the state, saying that Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP)’s activities are on the rise.
Speaking at the opening of an emergency security meeting summoned to review increasing terrorists attacks in the state yesterday in Maiduguri, Zulum described the recent surge in terrorists attacks as unfortunate.
He said:”As I address this important gathering today, it is unfortunate that the renewed Boko Haram attacks and kidnappings in many communities almost on daily basis without confrontation signaled that Borno state is loosing ground.”
He said that the Borno government has been very supportive to the military and other security agencies in the fight against insurgents . He said the support has led to a relative peace in the past years until recently.
“It is disheartening to note that the recent attacks and dislodgement of Military formations in Wajirko, Sabon Gari in Damboa local government, Wulgo in Gamboru Ngala, Izge in Gwoza local government among other related killing of innocent civilians and security agencies calls for serious concern, and it is a set back in the fragile state of Borno and the North East region.”
While commending the Federal Government, President Bola Tinubu and the security agencies for their unwavering support in the fight against terrorists, he maintained that more efforts including equipping and deploying of technological warfare were required to urgently halt the renewed attacks.
Borno State Commissioner of informational ane internal security, Usman Tar, while presenting the revolution of the security meeting,told journalists that the military has promised to step up its offensive against Boko Haram and ISWAP,especially as the Nigerian Air Force expects a new platform soon.
He said the meeting commended the resettlement programme of the state government with over 100 towns, communities and villagers resettled.
He, however, said government was unable to resettle displaced persons back to three local governments of Abadam, Guzamala and Marte , due to the dire security situation in the area. He also announced the resolve to clear expanse of land for agricultural activities as the raining season was approaching:”Food security is the best security. The meeting called on the military to provide needed support to ensure safety of farmers. Borno has been facing terror attacks since 2009”.
