Ten Nigerian athletes punch tickets to 2023 NCAA Outdoor championship

Nigeria’s track and field athletes had very strong showings over the weekend for their various schools in USA, securing their tickets for the NCAA Championship in Austin Texas.

No fewer than ten Nigerian athletes studying in the USA have so far punched their tickets for the  2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held June 7-10 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

At the NCAA West and East Preliminaries, Udodi Onwuzurike, Favour Ashe, Godson Brume, Alaba Akintola, and Karlington Anunagba are on their way to the most prestigious college track and field championships in the world.

Rosemary Chukwuma clocked an SB of 11.09s to finish 2nd in her 100m heat at the West Prelims for the ticket. Kennedy Blackmon got the win with 11.02s

Favour Ofili, on her own account, has booked her qualification spot to the NCAA Championships, sped to a 22.77s (+2.1) to finish 3rd in heat 1 of the women’s 200m at the NCAATF Prelims.

Not left out in the train to Texas is Nathaniel Ezekiel  who clocked a time of 49.04 seconds in the men’s 400m hurdles .

After finishing in 4th place in the men’s 400m quarterfinals 1 with 46.61s, Dubem Amene punched his ticket as one of the next fastest times for a place in Austin.

Bashiru Abdullahi with 13.61s(+1.7) for a spot in the semifinals in Austin in the men’s 100m at the West regional.
