A teenager, Olamide Phillips, has been arrested by police in Ogun State for allegedly stabbing his friend, Moses Odeh, to death.
It was learnt that the incident occurred during a fight on Obalende Street in the Isara area of the state around 6:30 pm on Sunday.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, CSP Omolola Odutola disclosed that the fight erupted from a disagreement whose cause was uncertain.
She said Phillips’ and Odeh’s parents were friends who lived in the same compound.
Phillips’ mother was said to have told Odeh’s father, Osapa, that her son stole N5,000 from her bank account.
While the immediate cause of Phillips’ and Odeh’s quarrel could not be ascertained, the fight reportedly erupted after Odeh walked in as his father was scolding Phillips.
The police spokesperson revealed that despite their parents’ efforts to break up the fight, Phillips grabbed an object and stabbed Odeh in the stomach.
She disclosed that Odeh was rushed to Kings Hospital, a medical facility in the community, but died on Monday because of the injuries sustained.
“The deceased’s body has been taken to the General Hospital in Isara for an autopsy, while the suspect has been detained,” Odutola said.
The PPRO further disclosed that Phillips fled to a neighbouring community, Ipara Remo after Odeh’s death but was arrested by the Isara Division following a manhunt.
Odutola said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Abeokuta for further investigation.
