Barcelona defender, Pau Cubarsi has disclosed that his teammates nicknamed him “McDonald’s waiter” after he had to wear protective headgear when he sustained a facial injury two seasons ago.

He said his colleagues thought the headgear made him look like a McDonald’s employee.

The 19-year-old disclosed this while sharing memorable moments from his career so far with L’Equipe.

The Spaniard had sustained an injury to his face that required stitches during Barcelona’s 5-2 away win at Red Star Belgrade on November 6, 2024.

”Another memorable moment was against Red Star Belgrade. During a tackle, I lowered my head, the opposing player raised his foot and caught it in my face. I saw it was starting to bleed, my teammates got worried and called the doctor,” he disclosed.

“At halftime, he told me I needed stitches. First, I asked him to let me take a selfie to send to my mother and tell her I was okay, but also to have a souvenir.

“To be able to play against Real Sociedad a few days later, I had to wear a protective helmet that made me look like a McDonald’s employee. My teammates called me the McDonald’s waiter!”
