TeamMasters has announced its preparedness to hold its 14th edition of the National Spelling Bee to showcase the linguistic prowess and transformative experience of the young minds.
This was made known by the CEO, Rotimi Eyitayo, who said registration for the competition has officially opened for parents, guardians, and educators to register their children and students at their website for a chance to participate in the event.
He said it is opened for children between the ages of five and 16 years. “Specifically, those invited to participate are those in grade one (primary 1 only), lower primary (primary 2 – 3), upper primary (primary 4-6), junior secondary (JSS 1 – 2) and senior secondary (SSS 1 – 2)),” he said
He said the registration fee is N10,000 per child while regustration ends on February 10.
Commenting on this year’s edition, Mr. Eyitayo, said engaging in spelling competitions has proven to have far-reaching benefits for participants. He noted that beyond enhancing spelling skills, children and teenagers develop improved mental acuity, heightened confidence, and enhanced self-esteem.

Speaking on some of the highlights of the 14th edition, he said: “The competition will feature thrilling spelling challenges that will put participants’ linguistic abilities to test. Cash prizes and fantastic gifts are up for grabs. Winners, schools, and teachers stand a chance to be rewarded for their excellence.
“Also, there are networking opportunities as participants will have the chance to connect with like-minded individuals, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared passion for language.”
Speaking further, he said: “For over a decade, TeamMasters has been at the forefront of organising exceptional spelling competitions, creating a platform, where children and teenagers showcase their spelling excellence. The TeamMasters National Spelling Bee has become a beacon of linguistic brilliance, fostering love for language, and inspiring participants to reach new heights in their academic and personal development.
“When you see someone like myself train and speak, people admire the courage; they admire the level of confidence, even if it is 1000 or 2,000 you are speaking to. We had the desire to see how we could translate that same confidence right in the kids outside the classroom. We looked at it and said what way can we train these kids consistently and achieve a particular result without necessarily taking them through the classroom method? And that was what gave birth to the spelling bee project that was launched October 14, 2008,” he said.
He said the competition’ preliminaries would begin on February 24, 2024.
Eyitayo called for sponsorship and partnership discussions from the government agencies, corporate organisations and private individuals.
