The Galadima Muri of the Muri Emirate and District Head of Jalingo, Alhaji Abba Tukur, has appealed to farmers and traders in Taraba to consider the plight of the poor and reduce the prices of food items.

Alhaji Tukur made the appeal on Saturday during the 40th anniversary of his reign as Galadima Muri.

The traditional ruler expressed worry that the daily increase in prices of food items was worsening the economic challenges of indigent persons and appealed for consideration.

According to him, the devaluation of the naira in exchange for food has posed an impending situation for the poor that can best be described as a calamity.

“I wish to appeal to both farmers and traders to consider the plight of the poor people and reduce prices of food items. The daily increase in prices of food items is worsening the economic challenges of the indigent persons. I want people in control of this aspect to consider the situation of the poor.

“The devaluation of the Naira in exchange for food is a terrible signal that the state of the indigent persons would worsen if not address,” he appealed.

The Galadima commended Governor Agbu Kefas for the fight against insecurity in Taraba, describing the development as outstanding in recent years of Nigeria’s struggle against insecurity.

“My decision to celebrate 40 years on the throne as Galadima today is due to Governor Kefas’ deliberate fight against insecurity in Taraba. The governor’s fight against banditry has brought peace, not only in Jalingo but to the entire Taraba that allow people’s access to different means of daily earnings.

“As a traditional ruler, I find no joy in life when my people cannot access their farms and businesses due to insecurity. I want to sincerely commend Governor Agbu Kefas for the outstanding fight against insecurity in Taraba that is gradually restoring life, not only to the depressed persons but to the citizens,” Galadima commended.

Earlier, Alhaji Kabiru Mararafa, chairman of the occasion, and the Lamdo Bakundi (HRH), Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Gidado Misa, both described the Galadima as a traditional ruler whose leadership qualities and activities the traditional institution would always use as a reference point for positive decisions and the development of the institution in Nigeria.
