Senators Emmanuel Bwacha and Abubakar Tutare have emerged as gubernatorial flag bearers for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Taraba State, respectively.
During the affirmation of Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, the leadership of the party raised a voice vote, where an overwhelming response affirmed him as the sole candidate of the party for governorship, and he was automatically returned elected, having met all requisite qualifications.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Bwacha appreciated the party for what he described as free, fair and open primary elections and urged the people to keep faith with the party despite distractions.
“The development indices in the state have fallen to the lowest in the history of the state. This is unacceptable. Taraba State is for all of us, and the state’s resources must not end up in the pockets of a few individuals at the detriment of the vast majority of the people wallowing in poverty and want. We will rise up and take what is ours.
“Let me once again urge you never to sell your consciences. However, if they give you money, take it, but do what is right for you and our dear state by voting this administration out and ushering in the PDP. You will never regret voting PDP into government come 2027. As an agrarian state, I will open up roads to ensure easy movement and make life better for the people. I stand today to assure you that I will do what is best for you and will not fail you. I have made my 42-point mission statement available. Hold onto it and use it to measure us once we get into power,” Bwacha said.

Similarly, Mr Kupchi Maxwell, Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Primary Elections Committee for Taraba State, announced the names of candidates who will contest the party elections in the state.
“Gentlemen, we are here for the declaration of the results of the keenly contested primary elections. We are all stakeholders and stand to gain a lot. All registered members of the party had the opportunity to participate in choosing those who will stand for elections for the party, and those who win are only the arrowheads. They need the support of all to succeed. If we want to make a difference, we must be able to do things differently.
“For the governorship, we have Abubakar Umar Tutare. Some were elected via consensus, others through direct primaries, while others were simply sole candidates and so were affirmed.
“We are aware that some of the aspirants have observations and have indicated some anomalies. The ADC, being a just party, has a strong internal party conflict resolution mechanism. As such, we have put together an appeal committee that will resume work immediately, and certificates of return will be issued on completion of their work.”
In his acceptance speech, Senator Tutare said, “I appreciate the party for providing a level playing field for us to participate in these primaries that have placed some of us as candidates of the party. I, on behalf of all the announced candidates, gratefully accept our mandate, and we will work together to achieve success. Even though we are in opposition, we are not scared. We have a solid team that guarantees success.
“Government is large enough to accommodate everybody. I therefore urge those who did not scale through to be sportsmanly enough to accept the result and let us work together for the greater good. If ADC succeeds, we have all succeeded.”
