The South West Governors’ Forum met on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to discuss issues of interest to the geo-political zone, including security and economic integration.
The meeting, which lasted for about 45 minutes, was chaired by the Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum and Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN). It was held at Akeredolu’s residence, Jericho, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The governors in attendance were conveyed to the venue in one fortified black space bus. The bus entered the premises of Akeredolu’s residence, but journalists were asked to wait outside.
The governors present at the meeting were Seyi Makinde(Oyo), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Mr. Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti).
The Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, who was not at the meeting, as gathered, was in Kogi State, attending a campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Senator Dino Melaye, ahead of the November 11, 2023 gubernatorial poll in the state.
At the end of the meeting, the four governors also entered the same bus and all journalists could see was that the bus was driven out of Akeredolu’s premises.
Akeredolu, according to a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, appreciated the governors for their solidarity, and harped on continuous collaboration among the South West States.
Olatunde also quoted Governor Makinde as saying that the forum is praying for Governor Akeredolu, adding that he has the support of all the governors in the region.
“The governors discussed national and other issues affecting the region and the people,” Olatunde said.
