The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Nasarawa State Chapter has called on the Nasarawa state government to as a matter of urgency complete the ongoing project at the Lafia city stadium to enable resumption of sporting activities in the state.

The decision was held at its general meeting and issued a communique on Thursday, April 4th, 2023, at Abacha Youth Centre, Lafia.

During the meeting, the association congratulated the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, and his Deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, on their re-election to continue to pilot the affairs of the state for the next four years.

The association also congratulated the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, and all members-elect to the Assembly, urging them to enact laws that will have a direct bearing on the citizens.

The association commended the state government for the steps taken towards developing the state, cutting across critical sectors, with a call on the Governor Sule-led administration to continue with the good job.

They also appreciated the efforts of the state government in transforming facilities at the Lafia City Stadium, which are geared towards improving sporting activities in the state.

However, SWAN urged the state government to ensure other sports facilities, especially at the stadium, are equally considered in terms of early completion, giving the fact that it has a way of affecting the psychology of athletes of the state.

Additionally, the association expressed disappointment with the current position of the state-owned male football club, Nasarawa United, and urged the management of the club to do everything within its powers to save the club from being relegated to the lower division.

SWAN reiterated its commitment to promoting sports and related stakeholders in the state, as well as supporting the government’s efforts to improve the sector. The communique was signed by Isa Muhammed, Chairman, SWAN, and Smah George, Secretary, SWAN.
