Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed that the suspension order placed on Dosunmu market and its environs, following the recent fire incident, remains in effect.

Contrary to speculations, the market has not been reopened, and the suspension order continues to be enforced.

The deputy director, public affairs, Central Business Districts (CBDs), Seyi Akitoye, in a statement, Friday, said Special Adviser to the Governor on CBDs, Bola Olumegbon Lawal, clarified that the state government is actively assessing the affected area to ascertain the extent of damage.

The assessment, according to her, includes determining the number of businesses and individuals impacted by the fire, as well as identifying buildings affected by the incident.

Lawal urged market traders to exercise patience during the process.

She said the state government is committed to ensuring a thorough evaluation before making any decision regarding the reopening of the market.

“The public will be duly notified once a decision is reached.

“The Lagos State government remains dedicated to the safety and well-being of its citizens and businesses.

“The ongoing assessment of Dosunmu market and its environs underscores this commitment. Stakeholders are encouraged to cooperate with government agencies during this critical phase,” she said.
