There is palpable fear in Ikobi community in Apa Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State following the killing of a health worker by suspected herdsmen.
Our correspondent gathered that the herdsmen after killing their victim fled with his head after the attack.
A local from the area, who didn’t want to be named, said the deceased was travelling from Ikobi to Ugbokpo when he was ambushed by the attackers along the road.
The source said the assailants allegedly killed the health worker and beheaded him before escaping from the scene.
The resident expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the area, describing the road as a frequent target for attacks.

“We are deeply worried that this particular route has become a recurring ambush point for suspected herdsmen. Our people can no longer travel freely on roads within their own communities,” the source said.
The Chairman of Apa Local Government Area, Adam Ochega has confirmed the incident.
Ochega who spoke to newsmen on phone stated that the victim was travelling from Ikobi to Ugbokpo when the attackers struck.
He said the health worker was ambushed and beheaded by the assailants during the attack.
The source confirmed that the latest incident has heightened fears among residents, who have repeatedly called for improved security measures to protect lives and ensure safe movement along roads in the area.
He said community members are urging security agencies to track down those responsible and and bring them to book to prevent further attacks.
