A suspected internet fraudster, one Daniel Anikpe has told police investigators in Delta State that he bought a gun to exert revenge on any of his gang members who tried to swindle him.
The 27-year old suspect confessed that sharing the proceeds of their cybercrime always generated issues among gang members, with contention over the sharing formula.
Anikpe was recently arrested with another suspect, Chikeluba James Ani, 27, in Asaba by a patrol team from Eagle Net Special Squad of the state police command.
Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Bright Edafe who confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, said Anikpe admitted that he got the gun eight months ago from his friend, one Tata “who is currently in Ogwashi-Uku Prison for an offence of armed robbery.
“He also stated that he bought the gun at a cost of N25,000.
“He said in the course of his Cyber crime activities, issues bordering on sharing formula usually emanates with his partners in crime, hence he bought the gun to exert revenge on whoever tries to swindle him of his ill gotten money.”
According to Edafe, the suspects were arrested during a stop and search duty at Maryam Babangida Junction, Asaba, in their black Toyota Camry car with registration number ABH 911 GW.
Edafe said after a painstaking search was conducted on the suspects and the vehicle, one locally made double barrel pistol, three live cartridges, one jack knife, two wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, one Samsung Galaxy, one Iphone, two black berets, a driver’s license, one bank ATM card, one hand chain and five finger rings were recovered.
He added that the matter was still being investigated.
