A Bauchi Based Lawyer, Barrister Mohammed Alkassim, has hailed President Bola Tinubu for non-interference in the recent pronounced judgments of the Supreme Court concerning the 2023 General Election Results.

Alkassim, who made this known in an interview with Daily Sun in Bauchi on Monday, said Nigerians must appreciate the President for upholding the rule of law, expressing optimism about the country’s democracy.

“We must thank the President for exhibiting maturity and strong character by not interfering with the Supreme Court Verdict,” he said.

“It is without any doubt that the Supreme Court is the apex court of the land and also the final court in the land.

““The recent judgment of the Supreme Court has equally ended the hope of other political parties but brought hope to the lives of Nigerians that Nigeria will be greater.

“The judgment has also paved the way for Nigeria to excel in its judicial endeavor.

“To my belief the judiciary is important under the provisions that are responsible for the interpretation of the law.

“The apex court must ensure that laws are applied appropriately in all cases to form a good, sound judicial precedent.

“The legal framework must work as intended and that judges must be impartial.

“The provisions of section 6 of the Constitution of the Federal a republic of Nigeria as amended gives power to the judiciary at the federal and the state vested in the court.

“It is therefore the responsibility of various judges in the various courts to protect and promote democracy giving sound judgments

“It is in my view having relied heavily on the provision of section 39 of the Constitution which guarantees every person to be entitled to freedom of expression, including the freedom to hold opinion and receive impartial information without interference.

“The judgment of the Supreme Court has come to the state and will also prevail on all judgments of the land as cases are concerned.

“We hope this judgment will equally redeem the image of Nigeria among the international comity of nations when it comes to adjudication”
